Beauty in Simplicity

From March 20th to May 5th, 2024, Schmitt took it upon herself to bring her crocheted work to 24 trees spanning across the SUNY Oneonta campus. Each tree piece was unique, with the focus being on finding ways to repurpose past projects and combine them with new pieces to create an eye-catching, colorful display. Contrasting to her freeform abstract work, Schmitt wanted to focus on the beauty that comes with simplicity with this public art display. By making a handful of the pieces using traditional granny square crochet patterns paired with recognizable patterns such as flowers or spiderwebs, Beauty in Simplicity brought joy and positivity to the SUNY Oneonta community.
