About the Artist
Christine Schmitt is a crochet artist. Through her expertise with crochet art, she is able to create unique pieces that draw people together. Her 3D sculptures such as Overthinking (2023) or Pride (2023) showcase her ability to crochet on a larger scale. Her many 2D freeform pieces such as April 4th (2023) or 12 Part Freeform Crochet (2023) focus on how successful crocheted art can be when abstract. Schmitt has exhibited wildly at across the Oneonta community, with exhibitions in the SUNY Oneonta Project Space Gallery including Project Open Call in Fall 2022, and Spring 2023, and Jean Parish Scholarship; the Martin-Mullen Gallery for the 2023 Juried Student Show where she won the Martin-Mullen Creativity Award. Along with exhibitions at CANO in downtown Oneonta, including The Mansion Show: Annual Juried Exhibition for 2 years in a row.
Her first solo exhibition Emotional Ties was on display from January 30th to March 9th, 2024.
She had a public art display spanning across the SUNY Oneonta campus from March 20th to May 5th, 2024. As well as her first public art display in Queens, NY from July 18th to August 19th, 2024.
